Newcastle is perfectly positioned for great pre and post touring options. Capital of and gateway to the Hunter Region, Newcastle is within 55 minutes drive from the world famous Hunter Valley Wine Country, offering wine, cheese, beer and chocolate tasting, unique accommodation, galleries, shopping, the largest display gardens in the southern hemisphere and much more. To the north is Port Stephens Blue Water Wonderland where you can enjoy a whale and dolphin watching cruise, go four wheel driving on the sand dunes or experience the excitement of deep sea fishing. Newcastle also offers a great variety of Activites and Attractions.

Lake Macquarie

From golden surfing beaches and tranquil lake cruising to untouched mountain wilderness and quaint waterfront towns, Lake Macquarie is the perfect destination for relaxation and indulgence. All located only 25 minutes south of Newcastle.

This vast blue saltwater expanse is one of the largest lakes in the Southern Hemisphere and at four times the size of Sydney Harbour is perfect for sailing, fishing, swimming, cruising and scuba diving.

Enjoy peaceful strolls around the lake foreshore, or take a swim at one of the many sun-drenched beaches that dot the coastline. From sheltered sandy coves to rock pools and sea caves, the beaches of Lake Macquarie are there to discover and explore.

The Watagan Mountains are a stunning backdrop to the Lake and well worth visiting for the panoramic views. Take one of the many hiking tracks, or traverse the mountains by bike, horseback or four-wheel drive.

Port Stephens

Port Stephens Blue Water Wonderland boasts a waterway two and a half times the size of Sydney Harbour.

Hunter Valley Wine Country

Hunter Valley Wine Country is a 55 minute drive from Newcastle. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Brokenback Range, the area now yields more than a hundred wineries and cellar doors, embracing areas such as Pokolbin, Rothbury, Broke Fordwich, Lovedale, Wollombi Valley and Mount View.

If you are hunting for something new to do, try experiencing a glorious sunrise from a hot air balloon, horse ride through a vineyard, browse through galleries and antique shops, or see the Valley by horse and carriage, bicycle or even limousine!

The Hunter Valley is known for its award winning wines, however the valley now supports a burgeoning olive industry with cold pressed olive oil and other olive products. You will also find wood fired bread, delicious Hunter cheeses, stone fruits, table grapes, honey, home made condiments and sauces, and even chocolate made with chilli.

Barrington Tops

Explore the Hunter's World Heritage Area – Barrington Tops
